As you can tell (not that it’s obvious at all), at ByJohn, we’re obsessed with colour, quirky designs and anything that packs a whole lot of personality.
But there’s more to our love affair with colour than simply making things look good. We wanted to share a little more about our design philosophy, how we use colour and why beige has never really stood a chance around here.
Design Begins With a Feeling
Every design begins with an emotion rather than a colour palette. Whether we want to evoke joy, warmth, calm or a sense of playfulness, colour is the language we use to express that feeling. And it’s a language we understand very well.
We believe colour is one of the most powerful tools we have to shape how a space feels. Every design starts by exploring different colour combinations until the overall feeling is exactly right. Even the smallest change can completely transform the mood of a design.
But each and every piece we create has to do two things. Non-negotiable. It has to create a sense of happiness and bring some personality into your home.
Playing With Colour
Colour is something we’ve always trusted. Rather than seeing it as something to be used sparingly, we explore bold and unexpected combinations, pushing them until they almost feel like too much before pulling them back into balance.
Some might argue we don’t pull back enough, but personally, we’ve never had any complaints.
It’s in that sweet spot where colours feel vibrant, playful and a little surprising where the strongest emotional connections are made. We’re not interested in following rigid rules about which colours should go together. If a combination makes us feel something, we’re onto something.
Because ultimately, the best colour palette is the one that makes you happy.
We Don’t Do Beige
We don’t do beige, in every sense of the word.
There’s an idea in interiors that calm has to mean muted, neutral and understated. Something about that has never quite sat with us. Who decided calm had to mean the absence of colour?
A bold blue or vibrant green can feel just as calming as a soft beige if it resonates with the person living in the space. Colour is deeply personal, and we’re all about encouraging people to trust what makes them feel good rather than following someone else’s design rules.
Your home should look and feel like you!
Pretty Much…
We want every ByJohn piece to make someone smile. From the moment you unwrap it to the moment it finds its place in your home, we hope it brings a little excitement, colour and joy into your day.
Homes should reflect the people who live in them. They should be personal, welcoming, a little unexpected and full of life.
So, pretty much, if it’s colourful, makes you smile and has a bunch of personality, we’re probably going to love it.
